15 Steps to Create Creative Culture

Another Great Post by Stephen Brewster. Thought it was worth the re-post. Check it:

Creating a creative culture is not easy. It takes the willingness to admit that as leaders we do not have to always be the idea generator. Here are 15 little things you can do to start the process of creating a creative culture.

  1. Good ideas win, always. No matter who has them.
  2. Everyone has an idea and deserves to be heard.
  3. Be secure enough in your gifts to admit your not the only idea person on your team.
  4. Be secure enough in your gifts to admit others ideas are good, or even great.
  5. Look for ideas that are totally opposite of your ideas.
  6. Listen to everyone, do not just hear them.
  7. Extend grace to even bad ideas.
  8. Respect your systems, but challenge them often.
  9. Help the creatives on your team become “owners” of a project not just “renters”.
  10. Communicate the goal and the expectations.
  11. Ask a lot of questions, and hear the answers.
  12. Discuss the end user experience early and often.
  13. Avoid boring meetings for your team.
  14. Support your teams ideas, no matter how radical.
  15. Except when your ideas fail.
  16. BONUS: Create safe places for your creatives.

What are other ways you have found to create a culture of creativity on your team?
